Doon International Public School organised its 17th Annual Athletics Meet for the Junior and Senior wings of the school on Monday, 20 November 2023, at the main ground of the school. The Chairman of the school Mr. Keshav Mohan was present as the Chief Guest for this occasion.
The Campus Director Mr. Sanjay Kuqsal, the Principal Dr. Tanuja Pokhariyal, and the Vice Principal Ms. Swati Pandey were also present.
The inaugural ceremony began at 11:00 am. The Principal welcomed the Chief Guest and the Campus Director with gifts of planters embossed with the school logo. After the choir sang the School Song, the Athletics Meet torch was lit by the Chief Guest Mr. Keshav Mohan and handed over to the Sports Captain Sahil Singh Chauhan. The Sports Captain thereafter took one round of the track with the lit torch, and then placed the torch on a torch stand.
This was followed by a March Post by all four houses Akash, Agni, Pawan and Prithvi, to the beats of a drum. The salute was taken by the Chief Guest.
The oath to all participants was administered by the Second Sports Captain, Jyoti Kalura. They solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship.
Next, there were PT. displays. Grade 6" did a display with Dumbbells, and Grades 5 and 6 displayed the skilled use of Hula Hoops. Students of Grades 9 and 10 did Lezim exercises and some students from Grades 5 to 9 also did a Taekwondo display.
The Chief Guest addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of Sport in life and declared the 17th Annual Sports Meet of D.I.PS open. After that, students from the different houses competed against each other in more than 30 events over the next three days.
The events included several races such as 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 600 meters and mixed relays in both junior and senior categories and for both girls and boys.
All the participants took part in the events with great determination and enthusiasm. After all the field events were over it was time for prize distribution. The Chief Guest, the Campus Director and the Principal, awarded medals and certificates to the winners of track events.
- The Junior Girls Best Athlete trophy was won by Ananya Joshi (Grade 8"-D) of Prithvi House.
- The Junior Boys Best Athlete trophy was won by Kuldeep Kalura (Grade 7-A) of Pawan House.
- The Senior Girls Best Athlete trophy won by Manisha Ranakoti (Grade 10"-A) of Prithvi House.
- Senior boys best Athlete trophy won by Sahil Singh Panwar 12-C From (Akash House).
After that, the houses were awarded points based on performance in a whole year and several criteria. In the end, the overall trophy was won by Prithvi House.
After the award distribution ceremony, our Chief Guest delivered a short speech to the students explaining the significance of discipline and sports in student’s life.
A memento was presented to the Chief Guest by the Campus Director Mr. Sanjay Kuqsal. The Annual Athletic Meet 2023 was a grand success full of competition and sportsmanship. Moreover, such events play an important role in promoting qualities such as determination, teamwork and leadership in our students.
As the program drew to a close, the sports HOD Jyoti Kalura, proposed a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly to make the mega event possible. After that, the Chief Guest Declared the Athletics Meet Closed. And handed over the school flag to the Sports Captain Sahil Singh Chauhan for next year. The proceedings concluded with a harmonious rendition of the National Anthem.
